At the Agfa Gevaert site in Edegem, Belgium, a new sustainable residential area of 350 homes will be developed in the coming years by project developer Revive. Based on the master plan of Achtergael architects, OMGEVING worked on the development plan and on an ambitious, ecological landscape design. Ecological interventions consist of for instance reusing the demolition materials of the old shed for foundations, gabions, plant substrate, direct rainwater buffers through so-called ‘rain gardens’ and biotope measures for bats and insects. The first phase of the project involves the development of 60 apartments and 16 houses designed by POLO Architects. In this phase, OMGEVING is responsible for the design and realization of the courtyard.
