Flanders and Antwerp decided to opt for a bicycle and pedestrian

After an extensive study by OMGEVING and SBE of various tunnel and bridge variants, the Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters and the City of Antwerp have made the final decision to build a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Scheldt near the Kennedy tunnel. The Scheldt bridge was initiated by OMGEVING in 2018 in Ringpark West to achieve a more optimal modal shift. During the variant study, several optimisations have been worked out compared to the earlier bridge concept aimed at safer maritime transportation, resulting in the lift bridge concept with a passage width of 150 metres.
