E313 – E314 interchange - Lummen info

In 2007 OMGEVING was selected by the Flemish authorities and the Flemish Government Architect to create an ambitious landscape design for the upgrade of the E313 – E314 interchange in Lummen. The assignment consisted of designing four overpasses and four underpasses, the landscape within the interchange together with water catchment, and the specifically designed lighting.

The new infrastructure has been molded in a contemporary and unique manner into a cohesive landscape sculpture with a clear identity and look that is representative for the entire province of Limburg. It has been recognized as a major gateway, a “calling card” for the region where the contrast between the openness of the valley and the closeness of the neighboring forests plays an important role. The infrastructural landscape that has arisen is spectacular and varied and includes a strong interplay between safety, staging and landscape. The landscape revolves as part of a turbine, the border between infrastructure and landscape is blurred.
