Artwork Hypocaustum

Making archaeological heritage visible in the landscape.
Location
Tienen | BE

Archaeological site Mellenberg in Tienen hosts the foundations of a Roman villa in the underground. In particular, a bathhouse with hypocaustum or heating chamber was found, which inspired the artwork ‘Hypocaustum’ to mark this site. Site Mellenberg is an open field at the top of a gently sloping hill so it was chosen to provide a vertical object here that is visible in the landscape through its composition and materiality.
