Together with architecture office Lasovsky Johansson Architects, OMGEVING won two out of three themes in an international competition in České Budejovice. The team designs both the waste-to-energy plant and the wider urban concept for the area. This includes a public park and urban strategy for a new development area of České Budějovice. 

Because water bodies are typical for the area of Ceské Budejovice, our proposal demonstrates how well-designed blue-green infrastructure can contribute to a more climate resilient and vibrant living and working environment, without increasing development costs or giving up on good accessibility and flexibility. In addition to the qualities of a conventional development, our proposal provides a climate-resilient human-scale design that pays attention to the climate change, biodiversity and water, and ultimately responds to the ever-increasing heat stress in the global urban environment.

Furthermore, the proposal provides informal and recreational spaces within the new development zones. The green space permeating the entire new urban district is directly linked to the ambitions within the new ZEVO energy park.

Instead of creating an enclosed and inaccessible incinerator, the concept envisages a symbiosis of landscape, nature and recreation with the incinerator building itself. This implies a strong blending of landscape and building, making certain parts of the building belong to a creative and ecological network, connected to the surrounding area. The the ZEVO energy park can and should become an important recreational destination in the area, both for visitors and for local residents.
