The integrated flood risk management study for Thu Duc City, a large city district in Ho Chi Minh City, aimed to enhance the flood resilience of this district. Therefore, the main goal of this study was the development of an analytical and technical foundation for a series of flood mitigation projects in Thu Duc City that are adaptive and resilient to land subsidence challenges and climate change conditions. The study also supported in the development of investment items for the Thu Duc City Integrated Flood Risk Management Project Phase 1 Proposal in the Northeast region of the City (2026-2030).

For the integrated approach of the flood challenges in this growing district, an integrated blue-green vision at the scale of the city with the application of the key concept ‘delay, store, drain, and discharge’ was developed. This concept was also tested at a lower scale through design research around nature-based solutions case studies for the project ‘Phase 1 Proposal in the Northeast region of the city (2026-2030)’.

Both the developed vision and design research aimed to efficiently manage water in order to reduce flood risk reduction and reinforce long-term climate adaptability, delivering co-benefits that enhance the city.
